I agree – Pros of the book

  • I felt like Evan was talking personally to me. That made me relaxed while reading. It’s always a good sign when you can feel the connection with the writer.
  • I agree with his main concept behind Why He Disappeared. After finally having a healthy and fulfilling relationship with a man, it’s very easy for me to understand why Evan is right about making the first connection with a man by simply focusing more on the moment and less on the future.
  • He gives tons of examples which helped me recognise myself in at least few of the situations from my past. Therefore, if you had an awkward experience with a guy you liked, you will probably find a close example in the book with a proper explanation.
  • Evan is definitely honest about men. So, he doesn’t hide the fact that many men are just “unworthy” to think and worry about. I didn’t have the feeling he defends men and claims women as the wrong ones, which surprised me.
  • He focuses on what is “efficient or inefficient” instead of “right and wrong”. That shows maturity and professionalism – both essential to write a book like Why He Disappeared.
  • I like that he insists on the fact that women should act a little bit more feminine in a relationship if they want the man to hold on to his masculinity. And that has nothing to do with discrimination or weakness of the females.
  • I am a strong supporter of the idea that neither I cannot change anyone, even the man I love. What I can change is myself, but in a comfortable and desired way that leads me to a better version of myself. Why He Disappeared gives a clear path to how to make slight changes in yourself to feel better with a man and make him feel better around you.
  • There were more than just a few “Aha” – moments of enlightenment for me. Well, that was a pleasant surprise.

I disagree – Cons of the book


  • The introduction of the book is a little bit longer than needed, and I felt like I had to go through loads of pages before getting to the main point. The main body text starts at page 23.
  • I probably needed information on how to see the early signs of a “disappearing” man – he provided some, but a few more wouldn’t hurt
  • The last part of the book (Why He Disappeared During Your Relationship) is as important as the first one (Why He Disappeared After Your Date) but was shorter. Full of useful information, but would love to read a bit more on the subject.
  • His vision of when it’s ok to start having sex with the man is a little bit arguable. He agrees the first intercourse has to be at a point when the woman feels comfortable and sure about the guy’s intentions (only after he ticked the boxes from the boyfriend behaviour’s checklist). However, after that, he says it’s not ok to ask for a man to wait too long (so which pace should I follow – mine or his?).

Behind the scene tour in the local zoo


That is a fantastic way to spend the day out, get to know each other and experience something entirely different. 7 “You look nice” is a wrong compliment


Yes, you should tell her she looks nice but not exactly that way. If you like her hair – compliment her hair only. If you like her coat, rings, bracelet, watch or shoes – compliment it. Be specific. In that way you show her you notice the little things and that is impressive for a guy.


8 Be positive

9 No phone


Let’s get back to the “no”. Phones became almost a natural extensions of our hands. But still – nobody likes the other person to stay on the phone when there’s a conversation going on. Leave your phone in your pocket, turn the volume on so you can hear it if something important happens. Just don’t forget to turn the notifications off. You should expect the same from the other side as well, by the way.


10 No exes


Your ex-girlfriend – the reason your heart is broken, the reason for the grey hair, the reason you don’t believe in love… she is in the past. Let her stay there. She was part of your life once and just for a while. Don’t allow her to dictate your present or future. Don’t “invite” her on the first date with a girl that potentially could be something more serious and better than the ex. Moreover, don’t ask her for her exes either. Your first date is only your.


11 Eye contact

12 Keep the date short

Oh, yes. The bill. The most awkward moment form the first date. The opinions about who pays the bill at the end of the first date are as many as the dating experts. Ok, I may be overreacting a little bit, but you know what I mean. In the gentleman’s spirit, I would like to tell you that the girls nowadays still will be impressed if the guy pays the bill. Even if she offers to chip in too, don’t do it. Also if she makes more money than you – don’t do it. I don’t say anything about the future dates – it’s all about the first one you hang out together. Be the gentleman that gave her a flower, opened the doors for her and paid the bill for the few drinks or the small dinner or the coffee. It’s not about the money, it’s about the message you send her – the fact you enjoy her presence.


14 Keep your hands to yourself

In some countries people have the tradition to kiss each other’s cheeks – if that’s your case, do it. The first kiss has to come at the moment she knows you better and feels relaxed in your presence. And as women let me tell you that the first date is a pressure big enough without worrying of kisses.


16 Give her a lift back home or walk with her to her car


Another gentleman “how to”. Even if you don’t like her as much as you want to. Also if you know there won’t be a second date – give her a lift back home or walk her to her car. It’s just the right thing to do.




17 After the date


The date didn’t end at the moment she stepped out of your vehicle. If everything was perfect and you really enjoyed yourself – let her know. When you get home send her a small text message saying that you had a lovely time and thank her for that. Even if she doesn’t reply or you don’t see each other anymore. Be open to the people and don’t think that showing your honest thought will look weird or weak.

She either had the same doubts as you did and will decline a second date or will agree and you’ll have a chance to make up your mind. Everyone has days when they don’t feel 100% themselves, or they just act a bit weird when nervous. Keep in mind that may be your case. Give it a go if you feel you need to see more of her personality. If you know, it’s not worth it – enjoy your life and don’t over think about it.
