If you’ve ever heard of The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, you might know that men’s most common love language is appreciation.
In fact, let me tell you a personal story to show you how vital appreciation is to men:
Recently, I wrote this post on how a woman could find out if her man truly loves her and how to know if he’s THE ONE.
The inspiration for the post came from my man.
I listed all of the ways he captured my heart and added nothing to it. My partner read the post and admitted he was extremely emotional after it.
A few days later it was International Women’s Day (8th of March). I woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and on the way out my heart was going to explode. I saw something purple running towards me (here’s the time to mention I wear glasses and I was without them at this point, so my vision was limited).
It took me a second to realize that this was my handsome man holding a purple orchid. He got up to give it to me in the middle of the night because he knew we wouldn’t be able to see each other in the morning before he left for work. I don’t know about you, but when I saw my loved one getting up from bed at 2 a.m. to give me a flower, my heart melted.
I know that part of his decision to do it was the fact he knew I would appreciate it.
This is what appreciation does to men. They melt and do stuff you don’t expect them to do.

The one place I can recommend you create your video card for free is Canva. You can create an account (for free) and then follow a YouTube tutorial like this one to create the card with your husband’s photos, videos of both of you, and even voiceover.
5. “Things I Love About You” Video
I am improving the previous idea even more. Instead of a “Happy Birthday” video card, you can create a “Things I Love About You” video.
A creative way to do it is to film yourself at his favorite spots around your town or city and then create a collage of those videos. Visit the place you met or the place you went to for your first date. Be romantic and thoughtful, and he will absolutely love it—I promise you this!
6. Create a Song List
Don’t even try to deny it. Listening to a specific song reminds you of places, people, and moments you thought you forgot.
Use this to your advantage. This might sound a bit like a 90s idea, but I can tell you, he will love it.
Here’s what to do.
For this sweet birthday surprise for your husband, you will need to know his favorite songs. Create a list of those songs on iPod or Spotify and gift it to him. Men love these simple gestures; they mean you know him, and you know what he likes.
This list of songs will remind him of you every time he listens to them. Soon after that, every song on the playlist will remind him of you. How cool (and spooky) is that?
7. Choose A Date and Surprise Him With It
One sweet way to surprise your husband for his birthday is to plan a secret date the day before his birthday. He would not expect it, especially if you already have a party planned for his birthday.
Your date should be romantic, with just the two of you, good food, and a drink or two.
Is it going to be a dinner by the chimney or a romantic evening in your favorite restaurant?
