15 Best Christmas Movies For Couples
1. Love Actually (2003)
Where would this list be if we didn’t mention Love Actually at the very top? I never tire of watching this movie every year when Christmas comes around – it’s my personal Home Alone. And how could it not be when it’s one of the most beloved holiday romantic movies of all time? This movie dives into the interconnected love lives of a stellar cast and shows us that love is… All around.

2. The Holiday (2006)
The plot of this one is simple – Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are in desperate need of a break around Christmas, which is why they decide to swap their homes. Naturally, each finds exactly what she’s been missing in the life of the other. Add Jude Law and Jack Black to the mix, and there you have it – the perfect holiday flick.
3. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
Who would have thought that a movie about a suicidal man around Christmas time would become an all-time favorite classic? Jimmy Stewart is George Bailey, a man contemplating suicide until his guardian angel Clarence shows him what life would be like without him. As it turned out – George had a much bigger impact on the lives of others than he could have imagined.

4. Four Christmases (2008)
In this kitschy Christmas flick, Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn are unmarried couples who have to distribute holiday time among their four divorced parents after their holiday plans in paradise go awry. The moral of the story is actually quite sweet – no matter how hard you try to avoid it, the most wonderful time of the year has its way of bringing everyone together.
5. Serendipity (2001)
If you are a sucker for unrealistic, hopeless romantic movies – this one is for you. Featuring the enchanting chemistry shared between John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, this is a movie about how destiny will always get what its own. Jonathan and Sara are drawn to each other from the moment they meet but, in a turn of events, end up not seeing each other for 10 years. Eventually, however, they do meet up again…

6. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
If you and your beau like stop-motion animation and are in the mood for something unorthodox, try giving The Nightmare Before Christmas a try. Even though some people regard it as a Halloween movie, it does have that hefty degree of Christmas-ness to it. It truly highlights how magical Christmas can be if even the Pumpkin King Jack Skellington could see the comfort and joy it brings into the world.
7. Elf (2003)
Ah, Elf – another Christmas classic. If you are more of a Christmas comedy movie fan, Elf should definitely be high on your to-watch list. After all, what’s more hilarious than seeing Will Ferrell star as an oversized human elf who heads out to New York to reconnect with his biological father? Even though things don’t go that well for him on that front, Buddy will mobilize everything he has to save Christmas when Santa is in danger.

8. Die Hard (1988)
What is Christmas without Die Hard? Nothing, if you ask your boyfriend. While it may not be suited to your taste, trust me – your man will enjoy watching Bruce Willis fighting machine-gun terrorists on Christmas, anytime! Don’t be afraid to give it a go; I can tell you that it’s not as boring as it seems – it even made the phrase “Yippee ki-yay, motherf—kers!” a Christmas greeting!
9. A Christmas Prince (2017)
This cheesy Netflix romantic movie will satisfy all your royal fantasies. Amber is a journalist sent over to another country to spy on the charming Prince’s affairs (pun intended). She breaks into the palace (which, of course, she will be fully capable of doing on her own) and somehow lands a job tutoring the princess. The princess’s brother turns out to be a hot, rugged prince with a liking for archery and a desperate need to love someone.
10. Last Christmas (2019)
This is Kate’s beautiful and messy story, a quirky elf in a Christmas toy shop with the gift to sing and find her way in life. She accidentally bumps into a smart and big-hearted Tom… more than once, and she quickly learns that life might not be as awful and lonely as she thought. But there is a secret Tom hides from her… This is a movie that will make you laugh and cry, but it will also teach you that the Christmas spirit already lives inside us; we just need to look closer.

11. The Polar Express (2004)
In this children’s book CGI adaptation, Tom Hanks voices not one, not two, but three characters! The story follows a young boy who accidentally boards the Polar Express, a magical train that is headed to the North Pole. In most of its entirety, The Polar Express is a beautiful movie with stellar imagery. However, some have criticized it for being too “creepy”, so be warned.

12. Let it Snow (2019)
While some refer to Let it Snow, as a Love Actually for teens, I beg to disagree. While the movie has a similar structure to the classic (it tells the stories of multiple young lovers over the course of a day), it has its own charm to go on. The movie is actually based on a book by everyone’s favorite John Green, so that’s even more incentive to give it a shot.
13. A Holiday Engagement (2011)
In a tale as old as time, the main character in A Holiday Engagement hires a “fake boyfriend” to help her navigate through the holidays – with their relationship becoming something real along the road. Our girl Hillary gets dumped by her boyfriend a bit before Thanksgiving, but instead of coming clean to her parents, she is quick to enlist David to fill in the role of her fiance.

14. The Princess Switch (2018)
I must admit, when this movie came around in 2018, I was skeptical, to say the least. It sounded too much like The Parent Trap meets Lizzie McGuire meets The Princess Diaries. To my surprise, I was nothing short of delighted when I watched it. Stacy, an American baker, travels to a baking competition in fictional Belgravia. There, she meets a duchess, who looks exactly like her, and the two proceed to get involved in plenty of shenanigans together.
15. Carol (2015)
This 2015 adaptation of The Price of Salt is all about longing and the impossible love. As soon as Carol, played by the astonishing Cate Blanchett, sees Therese, played by the equally stunning Rooney Mara, sparks between the two start to fly. While their affair consists mainly of stolen glances and fleeting touches, it’s a swoon-worthy romance that is worthy of being shared between you and your boyfriend.
