Spending time together with your boyfriend isn’t just a fun side effect of having a relationship – it’s binding, self-discovering, and extremely enjoyable if you do it right.
We’ve already covered over 50 excellent ways to spend your free time at home without getting bored been for a minute. But what about the outdoors?
Some of the biggest benefits of spending quality time together are improving communication, building memories together, and seeing each other in different situations. This helps you get to know each other even better. I bet you have no idea how your boyfriend would react if you were to go on a hot air balloon trip or if he were to catch a firefly.
Well, today, we have 20 fun, cute, and outdoor bonding activities you could do with your boyfriend next time you have a few spare hours together.
How to spend quality time with your boyfriend outdoors?

1. Indulge in a mystery road trip
Stepping out of your comfort zone and doing so together with your partner can make your relationship even stronger. Pick a random place on the map, depending on how far away you want to go, or opt for a place you’ve been eyeing for a while. Whatever you choose, sharing a unique experience with your partner will surely make you feel more connected.
2. Visit a theme park
Roller coasters have no age limit. Consider spending the day at an amusement park to feel young at heart, together with your beau. Sharing a couple of adrenaline-stacked experiences is bound to have your hearts racing. You will remember this experience and talk excitedly about it for a while to come.
3. Go on a hike
Sweet and simple, taking a hike with your boyfriend doesn’t need a lot of prior preparation. Find a trail suited to both of your fitness levels and take a breather in the lush greenery of nature. Be sure to pack some snacks, water, and tea for when you reach that picturesque mountaintop.
4. Throw a picnic
What better way to bond together than over some shared food in nature? You can combine having a picnic with a short walk or hike but bear in mind that you have to carry everything along the way, which could be uncomfortable. Either way, pick a spot with a nice view (better yet, catch the sunset) and enjoy the scenery together.
5. Enjoy some horseback riding

Horseback riding isn’t as challenging as it may sound. It makes for a romantic time spent together as a couple, and you can bond more over the learning process that it involves. So saddle up and dare to get lost together in the wild.
6. Take some time to stargaze
Find a spot nearby with low light pollution, spread out a blanket, and snuggle together, trying to name the different constellations that light up the night sky. If you can’t remember your astronomy classes – it’s okay! Some apps can help you identify even the tiniest dots. I’ve discovered that this experience is best enjoyed with a shared bottle of wine.
7. Catch fireflies
When I was little, I used to believe that fireflies were actually fairies. For the late summer months, a perfect activity is to take two jars and set off to hunt together in the evening hours. After some time has passed, compare whose jar glows brighter – but make sure to release the fireflies after you declare a winner!
8. Pick some fruits
What better (and GMO-free) way to store up fruits than to pick them off the trees yourself? Make sure to bring enough crates and to have your phone battery charged for those obligatory tree-climbing photos. You can even have a contest of who will pick the most fruit in x amount of time – to make it more interesting.
9. Camp in the wild
The great outdoors isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. Still, nothing can compare to snuggling together with your boyfriend by the campfire next to a spectacular vista. If you are still worried about bugs, snakes, and other sorts of critters, you can limit yourself to your backyard.
10. Get your adrenaline up with rafting
This one is for the more adventurous couples out there. Challenging experiences have shown to increase the bond between partners, so maybe some white water rafting is just the thing you need. Get ready to get wet all over and pump up your adrenaline – and when your partner falls in a rapid, you will feel a pang of just how much you appreciate them.
11. Take on golfing

Ugh, golfing. Not the most romantic activity in the world, am I right? Even so, you can have a ton of laughs and spend a lovely, light-hearted afternoon together. Be it mini-golf or the real deal, let yourselves enjoy the goofy course themes and beer carts.
12. Find hidden treasures with Geocaching
Geocaching involves finding hidden “treasures” using your GPS, an area map, coordinate locations, and a compass. Don’t worry; you won’t be doing any digging, as the caches are hidden in plain sight, ranging in size from a pen to large boxes. You can make surprising discoveries, and the memories will last you a lifetime.
13. Go to a festival
Be it a cultural or a music festival; you are sure to have a new, positive and shared experience together with your partner. You can go to a lesser-known festival or one you aren’t that familiar with to have an even bigger “culture shock.” Who knows, you might even learn something new along the way.
14. Jump around on trampolines
This is a great activity to do even if the weather isn’t that welcoming for outdoor activities. Nowadays, there are plenty of places that offer trampolines of all sorts of shapes and colors. So, find the one near you and flip, bounce, and jump away with your partner.
15. Watch a drive-in movie
Drive-in movies are one of the timeless quality time ideas for couples. Even if your car isn’t a Cabrio, you can still enjoy the experience with some of your favorite snacks and reclined seats. Get ready to sigh and woo with one of the most creative and vibrant ways of moviegoing, which is still relevant today.
16. Ride a hot air balloon
Ready to take your relationship to new heights? A hot air balloon ride is definitely an out-of-the-box experience, but one that’s also worth your while. Enjoy the spectacular view and the lush greenery below in warm months, or the fall’s oranges, reds, and yellows. Regardless of what you choose, this experience will leave you and your partner breathless.
17. Take up couple jogging

Let’s face it – the latest world events in 2020/2021 turned most of us into couch potatoes. One way to get back in shape (and make it fun) is to involve your partner! Running is the most accessible way to get in some exercise, so tie up your sneakers, stretch those hamstrings and go, go, go!
18. Indulge in some thrift shopping
Thrift shopping together is one of my favorite ways to spend quality time together with my boyfriend. We help each other pick out clothes, ask for opinions and even pick up pieces that we think the other will like. Sometimes we even build whole fun outfits for the other to wear and challenge each other to actually buy them. It’s a great way to see how well you know your boyfriend’s sense of fashion.
19. Do some laser tag
If you think laser tag is for kids, then you clearly haven’t watched How I Met Your Mother. If you want to bring forth your inner child and engage in some competitive shooting, grab your partner to watch your back and go… laser tag something.
20. Take on fishing
Commonly perceived as a men’s activity, fishing can actually be a fantastic way of spending quality time with your boyfriend. Why? Because it… doesn’t involve any talking. It’s like sitting at home and each of you doing their own thing, except you are in nature and doing the same thing. Pretty cool, right?
