Valentine’s Day, Love and Other Stories…

The year is 270 AC. A priest named Valentine is about to get executed. The reason? Love.

Saint Valentine’s life’s most popular story is telling us how love cannot be stopped from spreading. In the 3rd Century, Emperor Claudius II was a pagan and created laws about what Christians were allowed to do. One of those laws was about the Roman soldiers. To make them utterly devoted to the Empire, he forbid them to get married.

But at secret Christian ceremonies, a young priest named Valentine broke the law and performed weddings.

Eventually, he was put in jail, where he fell in love with the jailor’s daughter. He wrote her a love letter in the last days before his execution and signed it “From your Valentine”.

This romantic story touches the hearts of the people and becomes the base of the St. Valentine’s day celebration. A celebration of true love and deep feelings.

Even if nowadays the holiday is commercialized, the importance of the meaning is so powerful and beautiful, that is almost impossible to stay emotionally passive on it.

How will you celebrate this year Valentine’s day? Are you running out of ideas?

Consider The Stage Of Your Relationship

It’s very easy to jump into romantic ways to surprise your girlfriend this Valentine’s Day. But there’s one tiny detail that can fail you if you don’t take it into consideration.

How long have you been together? Is your relationship exclusive? Are you serious about staying together or is it just casual dating that looks a little bit like a relationship?

If you’ve been together for a short period of time don’t go overboard. Keep things as simple as you can because you don’t want to leave the wrong impression.

Don’t get me wrong. You still can impress her and show her you care. But the line between “he cares a lot about me” and “OMG, I think he’s crazy in love with me, I hear wedding bells” is very thin on Valentine’s Day.

I’m a woman, trust me when I say, girls lose their sense of reality for a few days around this holiday. We’re just too romantic and love to live in fairytales.

However, if you’ve been together for a few years, if you are truly and deeply in love with each other… yes, you want to push all the buttons in her romantic heart. Maybe add a nice jewellery to her Valentine’s Day gift.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s see how many Valentine’s Day romantic ideas could you go with.

1. The Classic Valentine’s Day Romantic Surprises For Her

The traditions are still romantic, maybe even more and more lately.

Flowers, chocolates, and love cards are the basics of St. Valentine’s Day. There is no way your loved one not to expect flowers, so you better get prepared for it. You can get her favorite flower or stick with the classic red roses if you’re unsure what she likes. Flutes filled with sparkling champagne and dinner at the restaurant are among the most popular ways to celebrate your love. You can go to a new restaurant and try fresh international food – an experiment and a different experience for both of you. That will add one more emotion for the evening.

2. Day Time Valentine’s Day Romantic Surprises For Her

If you want to make a nice surprise, you could spoil your girl at work or at home with roses and a Teddy bear. This will bring a smile to her face and set the mood for the rest of the day.

If you’re preparing a surprise for the evening, you can send her a text message with the dress code, or a small hint about the surprise to make her more curious and excited about it.

3. Say You Love Her With Food

The idea is to prepare dinner for you two at home. Even if you live together, you can make the place look romantic with some candles and a blanket on the floor in front of the fireplace.

If you don’t like to cook usually, but you do it on this day, she will appreciate it, believe me. A glass of her favorite wine, a single flower, and soft music are a promising start to the evening for you two.

You could proceed the evening with a bath full of rose petals and gentle fragrance. This sounds like a night she will remember. Check this romantic bath kit for two to get some inspiration.

4. Go Back In Time – Romantic First Date… Again

Do you remember your first date? Where was it? What did you do?

A perfect way to celebrate your love on Valentine’s Day is to remind each other how everything started.

Go to the same restaurant and reserve the same table. Buy flowers and order her favorite food. Rewrite your first evening or day together with the knowledge you already have. Talk about how your love grew from that day till now. Now, that’s what I call couples goals.

Remembering your first thoughts about her will bring more emotions, and she will do the same, trust me.

5. Out and About For Valentine’s Day

If you and your partner are outdoorsy, this is a brilliant romantic idea for St. Valentine’s Day.

You can bike together, have a nice homecooked meal on the meadow in the park (sandwiches work just fine too), a small boat trip, or just a simple walk.

If you like climbing mountains or rafting, you can do that as well. As long as you spend the time together and you’re both having fun and feel the pleasure of being with the other, it doesn’t matter where you are.

6. Marriage Proposal

Now that is a way to remember that day, isn’t it?

Note that tiny paragraph at the beginning of this post? I told you to think how far you are in the relationship and act according to it.

Hence, the proposal idea is probably the most expected “surprise” she expects this year, especially if you’ve been together for a while and things are pretty serious.

How would you do it?

Now, that’s a whole new world you need to explore. Stay tuned as I have a few ideas for it too, just not in this post.

7. Make The Effort

Okay, the one thing you must not pass on is effort.

No matter if you’ll just get her flowers and chocolates, add a long kiss and words of appreciation, and you have it – she will be happy and smiling.

Whatever you decide to do, my friend, just do it with your heart and her in mind. A woman will always appreciate the effort, no matter how big or small the gift is, and it doesn’t matter if it’s shiny or not. Head over here for 50 romantic gift ideas for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is to celebrate love, not to buy the prettiest things from the shops. Your Valentine’s Day romantic idea for her must be based on your relationship, the depth of your love for each other, and the promise of facing Tomorrow together.

That’s all what this holiday is for, and that’s all what a woman asks for.
